The Best Tomahawk Steak Recipe

There are a few ways of cooking tomahawk steaks, so it is up to your personal preference. One way of cooking the steak is by cooking it entirely on the grill outside and then moving the steaks off the direct heat after searing to finish cooking until it reaches temperature. Another great way of cooking a Tomahawk is without using the grill at all. Just sear the cut that’s been brought to room temperature for about an hour in a cast iron pan or heavy skillet on high heat before moving it to the oven to finish cooking.

Instructions:

Step 1: Heat the grill to the highest temperature. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Step 2: Generously season the tomahawk steak with salt and pepper. We generally recommend using 1 teaspoon of salt and pepper per pound of steak. As Tomahawk is a thicker cut of steak, make sure to cover the top, bottom and sides with the salt.

Step 3: Sear the steak for around 3-4 minutes on each side. You can tell when the steak is ready to flip when it releases easily from the grill.

Step 4: Once the steak is done on the grill, transfer the tomahawk to a baking sheet fitted with a wire grid. Cook in the preheated oven until the steak has an internal temperature of 130 degrees (by using a meat thermometer for accuracy).

Step 5: Let the meat rest for 5-10 minutes before covering the steak with 1-2 tablespoons of compound butter. Slice and serve with sides of your choice.
